Objectives
SEMAFO Foundation’s objective is to bring poverty relief to communities in West Africa, by helping them to meet their own means.
Whether by coordinating sustainable development community-based projects or by redistributing basic supplies for healthcare, education and agriculture, the SEMAFO Foundation has at heart to make a difference in the lives of these people.
Millennium Development Goals
In 2000, the United Nations (UN) held a summit to analyze development issues with the goal of finding solutions to a number of world problems. During this meeting, 189 countries worked together to establish the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) aimed at improving the living conditions of the poorest people on earth by 2015. The agreed upon goals are:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality and empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a Global Partnership for Development
The SEMAFO Foundation intends to align its actions with these Millennium goals. In particular, objectives 2, 7 and 8 will be prioritized: achieve universal primary education, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a Global Partnership for Development.
